Over the last 11 years, we have managed to raise an astounding £827,500 for the Foundation, which is the philanthropic arm of St. James’s Place Wealth Management Group.
Since its formation in 1992, the St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation has aimed to make a positive and lasting change to the lives of children and young people through grant giving to charities that are aligned with the main focus’ of the foundation: children and young people who have special needs through illness, disability or mental health problems and also those who are disadvantaged in other ways. The Charitable Foundation also supports the Hospice Movement and people of all ages with cancer.
Over 100-day golfers took to the course and 360 gala dinner evening guests joined us on the 12th July 2018 for the ‘Diamonds and Pearls’ themed Summer Swing held at The Mere Golf and Spa Resort in Knutsford.
Friends for Leisure (FFL) of Canal Street in Congleton help young, disabled people aged 5-21 in Cheshire East enjoy friendship and leisure through one-to-one friendships to group activities, such as drama and sports sessions. They also help children and young people access activities of their choice, with or without a volunteer friend.
Friends for Leisure were chosen to be the pledge charity for the evening of the Swing, meaning that guests could pledge to give £400 on the night, which would cover the cost for a young person to attend a youth group for the year.
Grace, a young lady with downs syndrome and an attendee of Friends for Leisure, spoke in front of the evening guests telling them how the charity has helped her throughout her life by providing her with many fantastic opportunities and giving her the chance to take part in activities that might not have been possible without the aid of FFL.
The powerful speech encouraged over 40 evening guests to pledge to Friends for Leisure, raising a huge £17,200 and after the matching from St. James’s Place, the total raised reached a staggering £34,400.
The whole evening raised a fantastic £147,000 for the St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation. Within the total amount raised, FFM were proud to be able to support a very worthwhile, local charity.
Our Managing Director, Andrew Chatterton, stated “FFM has been delighted that we have been able to help a superb local charity who does so much good for children who really need their specialised help. We understand this funding will help their funding gap and allow certainty of their services for another twelve months and we have been delighted that we have been able to help through our efforts of our annual Summer Swing Charity Event”.
The donation was greatly received by Friends for Leisure who said “We were delighted to be the beneficiaries of Franklyn Financial Management’s Summer Swing. This generous donation will enable us to continue making a difference to the lives of disabled children across Cheshire East. We know from feedback that our service is highly valued by local families and our activities give disabled children and young people safe opportunities to have fun and make friends; something many of us take for granted”.
Harrison, an individual who is supported by Friends for Leisure, stated that “There are lots of happy volunteers at the activities. Friends for leisure is a good way of making new friends. I like going to drama and never want to miss it. We put on a performance and I have been going for 5 years.” The donation received from FFM will enable Harrison to continue to attend the activities that he likes to be involved with.
Cameron, another Friends for Leisure attendee, quoted “Friends for Leisure goes at a relaxed pace. It’s a great place to make friends. I particularly like going to bowling on Saturday mornings.”.
The Summer Swing 2018 could not have happened without the generosity of the main sponsors Clarke Willmott, Porsche Centre Wilmslow, TorFx, and Document and Data Shred along with all of Franklyn Financial Managements clients, suppliers and of course the team at FFM.
Thursday 11th July 2019 sees the 12th Anniversary of the Summer Swing with the theme being ‘One Moment in Time’ as FFM attempt to break through the £1,000,000 raised for the foundation over the years.
