12th Annual Summer Swing Event for St. James’s Place Foundation

Raising £1million for charity isn’t easy – as Congleton-based wealth management specialists Franklyn Financial Management will tell you. But- after 12 years of their annual Summer Swing fundraising event, their 2019 total took them past the £1 million raised mark!

This year’s event, held on Thursday 11th July at The Mere Golf & Spa Resort, once again followed the format of a charity golf day followed by a gala evening of entertainment, all designed to raise money for the St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation set up by St. James’s Place Wealth Management, of which FFM are a senior partner practice of.

The St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation is one of the most successful corporate foundations in the UK. All monies raised by the fundraising efforts of partners and employees of St. James’s Place are matched by St. James’s Place Wealth Management. This has resulted in the Charitable Foundation raising over £85 million since its inception in 1992.

They distribute the funds through grants to thousands of charities, many of them in local communities, and have been able to give substantial support to: Hope and Homes for Children, Teenage Cancer Trust, Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, Education for the Children Foundation.

Each year, FFM also nominate a Pledge Charity – a local, particularly worthy cause which attendees are able to support through pledging to donate a specific amount which will go directly to the chosen charity.

The Pledge Charity this year was The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust (CAFT) based in Millington, Cheshire.

CAFT is a special place where terminally ill, disabled and socially disadvantaged children can have a break away from their circumstances, and the amount raised through pledges at Summer Swing following matching from St. James’s Place Wealth Management was £39,000 – which will enable 70 children to have a 5-day break there.

The Summer Swing Golf Day, sponsored by solicitors SAS Daniels and Porsche Centre Wilmslow, was followed by a gala dinner, sponsored by currency transfer specialists, TorFX, at The Mere with entertainment provided by X Factor winner Sam Bailey and ventriloquist Jimmy Tamley.

During the evening, highlights were shown of the 2019 Franklyn Football Match v Stoke City Staff & Legends, as well as of the day’s golf, together with the much anticipated TorFX Safe Unlocking with a 2-night stay in Paris for the lucky winner and a live auction with lots including signed football shirts and concert tickets.

The total raised for the St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation over the whole Summer Swing event was £86,250. After matching by St. James’s Place Wealth Management, that became £172,500 – enough to take the total raised by all the Summer Swing events over the years to exactly £1 million!

Andrew Chatterton, Managing Director of Franklyn Financial Management: “We’re absolutely delighted to have reached such a fantastic milestone, which is all thanks to our sponsors over the years as well as the FFM team and of course the many guests we’ve welcomed. But this is just the first million, of course – we’ll be back next year with an even bigger and better Summer Swing event, to set about raising our second!”
